A sand team is built around a sandstorm, set by the Sand Stream ability the moment its user switches in. Sand chips every Pokémon that is not Rock, Ground, or Steel for 1/16 of its health each turn, gives Rock-types a 50% Special Defense boost, and doubles the Speed of Sand Rush users. Sand Force also powers up Rock, Ground, and Steel moves by 30%. The plan is grindy: set sand, apply chip, and outlast.

A good sand team pairs its chip damage with bulk and a fast finisher. You want a Sand Stream setter, a Sand Rush sweeper to abuse the doubled Speed, and durable attackers that shrug off the chip while the opponent bleeds out.
