MGolisopod Rain - Baltimore Reg 2nd pos

SunRainTrick Room

Aditya Subramanian (ck49) finished 2nd at the Baltimore Regional with this Mega Golisopod rain team, going 15-2 in Pokémon Champions Regulation M-C. His coach Michael Kelch built the team, and the format was only ten days old when the event started. The core four is Politoed, Golisopod, Farigiraf and Archaludon. Politoed sets rain with Drizzle, Farigiraf sets Trick Room, and Politoed next to Golisopod under Trick Room wins most games on its own. It is not a hard Trick Room team, though. Golisopod and Archaludon win plenty of end games at normal speed. Drill Run is what makes Golisopod work. Sucker Punch does nothing into a Nasty Plot Gholdengo, while Drill Run hits Gholdengo, Metagross and Kingambit hard and has a high crit rate. Leech Life heals back the chip damage, so Golisopod keeps going up to full. Politoed holds Mystic Water and sits at 94 Speed on purpose, a stat almost nobody else runs. It gets the slot over Pelipper for the extra special bulk, and because Golisopod's 4x Fire weakness makes the Arcanine matchup even worse next to Pelipper. Archaludon is Bold with a few extra Speed points, because the Archaludon mirror is much easier when you move first. Keep it in the back and switch it into the Electric attacks aimed at Politoed, so Stamina gives it the Defense boost. Farigiraf is Bold too, because opponents go physical to deny Trick Room. Grimmsnarl with screens and Charizard Y are the flex slots for the matchups the core struggles with. When you bring Charizard, lead with it. Avoid bringing Grimmsnarl and Farigiraf together, and do not pair Charizard with Golisopod, since only one of them can mega evolve. The mistake to avoid is counting on a single Trick Room. Many games need it twice. Late in the game the opponent has to choose between taking down Farigiraf to deny the second Trick Room and taking a knockout elsewhere, and either choice gives you something. Keep Politoed and Archaludon healthy for the end game into Incineroar. The spreads on this page are the ones Aditya ran at the tournament. After the event he said he would swap Grass Knot on Farigiraf for Helping Hand.
