Pokémon Champions Sun Teams

A sun team is built around harsh sunlight, set by the Drought ability the moment its user switches in and lasting five turns. Sun raises the power of every Fire-type move by 50% and halves every Water-type move. It doubles the Speed of Chlorophyll users, removes the charge turn from Solar Beam and Solar Blade, and makes Growth raise both Attack and Special Attack sharply rather than by one stage. The archetype runs on a clock: everything it does, it does better while the sun is up, and only while the sun is up.

Three jobs need filling. Something has to set the weather, something has to convert the Fire boost into knockouts, and something has to keep the game alive once five turns have passed. A Chlorophyll attacker covers the middle job most efficiently, since doubled Speed means it acts before the answer arrives. There is no reason to carry a second Drought user: the ability restores sun every time its holder returns to the field, so the setter is a resource to protect and bring back, not to duplicate. The builds ranked highest above are generally the ones that solved the third job rather than the first two.

Sun beats teams that lean on Water-type offense, and teams too slow to answer a Chlorophyll attacker before it has moved twice. The weaknesses are structural rather than matchup dependent. Any competing weather ability overwrites sun on entry, and rain in particular reverses the exact numbers sun depends on, halving your Fire moves while strengthening the ones aimed at you. Remove the setter and the plan stops. Redirection and bulky Water answers blunt the sweep without contesting the weather at all. Assume that at some point you will be playing without sun, and bring something that still threatens damage when that happens.

Not automatically, but the matchup is decided by sequence rather than strength. Whichever weather ability enters the field most recently owns the sky, so the exchange comes down to switch timing. Sun holds the harder half of that fight when both sides are committed, because rain weakens your primary attacking type and strengthens theirs in the same instant. Teams that handle it well hold the setter in reserve instead of leading with it, and carry damage that does not care which weather is up.
