Pokémon Champions Rain Teams

Rain is the weather that rewards speed and accuracy at the same time. It is set most reliably by the Drizzle ability, which brings rain for five turns the moment its user switches in, and again every time that Pokémon returns. While it falls, Water-type moves gain 50% power and Fire-type moves lose half of theirs, Thunder and Hurricane stop missing, Swift Swim users move at double Speed, and charge moves such as Electro Shot fire the same turn. A rain team is one that has arranged to hold all of those advantages at once.

Turn one sets the weather. Turn two should already be threatening a knockout. That sequence is what separates a rain team from a team that happens to contain Water-types. It needs a Drizzle setter, at least one Swift Swim attacker whose doubled Speed places it ahead of the field, and a heavier Water attacker that converts the 50% boost into damage the opponent cannot switch into safely. Since the setter re-establishes rain on every re-entry, one is enough, and keeping it able to come back matters more than what it accomplishes while it is out.

Rain punishes Fire-based offense outright and outruns opponents who expected to be the faster side. Its problems are structural. Any competing weather ability overwrites rain the moment it enters, taking both the Speed and the power with it. The setter is a single point of failure. Spread special attacks and redirection interfere with a Swift Swim sweeper without contesting the weather at all. The builds that last are the ones that can still apply pressure during the turns when it is not raining.

Almost always for one of two reasons. Either the weather changed and the team had no plan that functioned without it, or the setter was removed early and could not be replaced. Both are the same error viewed from different angles: the team was built to do one thing extremely well and nothing else acceptably. Rain rewards commitment more than most archetypes, which is precisely why the cost of losing the weather is higher here than almost anywhere else.
