Javier Varela won the 2027 Gdansk Regional with this team, going 14-2 in Pokémon Champions. It runs two megas, Mega Staraptor and Mega Tyranitar, next to Gholdengo, Excadrill, Sinistcha and Milotic.

You will often bring both megas and decide which one to mega evolve a couple of turns in, once you see what your opponent brought. Staraptor still does its job without the mega, with Intimidate on entry and Tailwind for the rest of the team.

When Tyranitar is the mega, lead it with Excadrill. Sand goes up right away and Sand Rush doubles Excadrill's Speed, which makes this lead strong into weather teams like rain or Mega Charizard Y. If the lead goes well, Dragon Dance lets Tyranitar take over. If it does not, keep Tyranitar as it is and mega evolve Staraptor later.

When Staraptor is the mega, lead it with Gholdengo. Staraptor handles Incineroar and Kingambit, the Dark types that trouble Gholdengo, while Gholdengo sets up Nasty Plot. With Contrary, Close Combat raises Staraptor's Defense and Sp. Def instead of lowering them.

Sinistcha is the midgame piece. Hospitality heals the partner when it comes in, Rage Powder pulls attacks away, and Strength Sap aimed at your own Mega Staraptor gives it +1 Attack while Sinistcha heals.

Into Intimidate leads like Salamence or Incineroar, Milotic with Excadrill is worth a look, because an Intimidate into Milotic triggers Competitive for +2 Sp. Atk. Excadrill also works without sand thanks to Focus Sash, and it is a good pick into Fairy teams like Mega Floette.

Gholdengo sits at 114 Speed, just above the Pokémon that stop at 112 or 113, a common benchmark under Tailwind.

Watch out for Kingambit, especially with Life Orb. Dragon Dance Tyranitar cannot hit it super effectively and Gholdengo struggles against it, so keep Staraptor's Close Combat or Excadrill's High Horsepower available. Opposing Milotic gets a Competitive boost from regular Staraptor's Intimidate, Rillaboom's Wood Hammer threatens your Milotic, and priority moves get around Excadrill's Focus Sash.

The sets match Javier's official team list from Gdansk, and the spreads come from the replica code shared with the team.
